The Grundfos STP 2.0 Bar Shower Pump is a WRAS-approved booster pump that can be installed between the water pipes in your home. It ensures that the water pressure is increased while you are showering and/or turning on your washbasin tap. This means you can enjoy a stronger stream of water in both cases. The pump provides a maximum pressure of 2 bar.
This model pump has a positive head, which means that the water flow to the device is always natural. The water source (usually a cold water tank) to which it is connected is situated at least 1 metre above the pump. Owing to the run-off created from the tank to the pump, the water flows into the pump as a result of gravity. Because the pump does not need to draw the water in first, it therefore operates far more efficiently than, for example, a pump with a negative head.
Another major advantage is that, in this situation, air is less likely to build up in the system. Air is not good for the pump, as sucking in air will prevent the pump from delivering the performance expected of it.
The pump is made of brass and stainless steel, making it an excellent device for transporting tap water from the mains as it prevents rust particles from streaming out with the water. This model pump features two impellers that allow it to transport hot and cold water at the same time. As a result, you can enjoy a comfortable shower even if someone, for instance, has turned on a tap to wash their hands in the washbasin, with both users being provided with a solid stream of water. In addition, the pump is fitted with anti-vibration and non-slip feet, which means it will run very quietly.
Under no circumstances should the pump be connected to the water mains system. This is prohibited by law in the UK. Otherwise the pump might draw pressure from the water supply network and cause your neighbours’ water pressure to drop.
How a Grundfos STP 2.0 Shower Pump works
Depending on tap use, the Grundfos STP 2.0 Shower Pump switches on and off automatically as it measures the flow in the water pipes. When a tap is turned on, the flow of water activates the pump. It will switch off when the tap is turned off and the flow stops.
Water flows from the main pipe into the cold water tank, which has two outlets. Through one of these, the water runs to the hot water tank to be heated, and then to the pump, while cold water runs through the other outlet and is transferred directly to the pump. The pump boosts the water so that it is supplied under high pressure to the draw-off points.
